A straightforward explanation of VPS hosting and how it differs from a managed network subscription.

How it works

Virtualization divides a physical server into isolated virtual machines. A VPS plan allocates computing resources such as CPU time, memory and disk space to the customer.

Common VPS workloads include websites, databases, development environments and business software. Customers are generally responsible for maintaining software, security patches and backups.

What to keep in mind

A service that provides only a connection key is not selling VPS hosting. Always read the plan specification rather than relying on a product or brand name.
